Cannabinoids,
a broad spectrum agent.
Cannabinoids are the main active
components of the plant Cannabis Sativa (Marihuana).
Research on cannabinoids is very intense. A medline
survey has shown that there were nearly 2,000 studies
on this topic between the years 2000-2004; this means
that everyday, more than one study is published.
The reason for this research
is that the therapeutic efficacy of marihuana is mostly
related to THC, a cannabinoid it contains. Marihuana
is a complex mixture that contains more than 400 compounds,
only 60 are cannabinoids and approximately four of
them are active.
Today we must admit that more
and more people are using marihuana for medical purposes
and that the availability of non-altered cannabis
is not evident. There is synthetic cannabinoids related
to THC which are available and approved on the Canadian
market as antiemetic and appetite stimulant agent.
